In honor of Halloween, I share these lyrics which made me a little teary this morning:
Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
Last night, at Bible study, we talked about our fears, and how God is our good shepherd who comforts us and cares for us. Becoming parents is scary, but it is also a great privilege be able to reflect on how our love for this coming child is a reflection of God’s perfect love for us as His children. Jesus refers to the people as his “little, little flock” in Luke when He tells them not to worry about what they will wear, what they will eat, etc. Now T and I will have a “little, little flock” of one to care for.
The lyrics to the song are appropriate as we think of calming the fears of our little one (particularly on Halloween…) and bringing her into our home, making it hers as well. I also love the lines looking to the future of when she may be lost, but that we will seek her out and bring her home. But more than us, God cares for her and won’t leave her alone. And with Him is her ultimate home. May she always know that truth.
P.S. I always think the song is a Mumford and Sons song, but alas it is from American Idol’s Phillip Phillips. Not as cool, but still a lovely song. Video here.
